Indonesian U-24 Team Suffers Another Defeat at Asian Games 2022, But Advances to Next Round

PROGRES.ID– The Indonesian U-24 team faced another defeat in the final Group F match of the Asian Games 2022. Garuda Muda lost 0-1 to North Korea at Zhejiang Normal University East Stadium on Sunday (24/9/2023).

Despite the loss, the Indonesian U-24 team managed to secure a spot as one of the top four third-place teams.

In the early stages of the match, Indonesia faced a threat in the ninth minute, but a shot from North Korea was safely handled by Ernando Ari Sutaryadi.

The Garuda team attempted to attack and patiently sought opportunities but encountered difficulty in creating dangerous chances.

North Korea eventually scored a goal in the 40th minute through Kim Yusong, who seized the opportunity in front of Indonesia’s goal.

Although the halftime break arrived, Indonesia continued to face a similar situation, with several threats coming from North Korea. The 1-0 lead for North Korea remained unchanged until the end of the second half. This victory allowed North Korea to accumulate nine points and advance as the group winner.

Meanwhile, Indonesia finished in the third position in the group with three points and a goal difference of 0.

In another match in Group F held simultaneously, Kyrgyzstan defeated Chinese Taipei with a score of 4-1 at the Jinhua Sports Centre.

Chinese Taipei initially took the lead through a penalty goal by Po Liang Chen in the 34th minute. However, Kyrgyzstan equalized with a goal from Ernaz Abilov in the 45+2nd minute.

Kyrgyzstan then turned the tables with an own goal by Tzu Ming Huang in the 55th minute. The third goal for Kyrgyzstan was scored by Dastanbek Toktosunov in the 62nd minute, while the fourth goal was netted by Arsen Sharshenbekov in the 90+1st minute.

This victory allowed Kyrgyzstan to accumulate three points with a goal difference of 0. Despite having the same points as Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan advanced as the runner-up due to a superior goal difference in all Group F matches. Kyrgyzstan will continue to the Round of 16 and face South Korea.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is expected to face Uzbekistan in the Round of 16, which will take place on September 28. However, Uzbekistan will first face Hong Kong. In the initial match, Uzbekistan won 1-0 against Hong Kong.
