Latest Data from Flight Global: The Number of Indonesian Fighter Aircraft in 2023

PROGRES.ID– Indonesia continues to strengthen its fleet of fighter aircraft, as reported in the 2023 World Air Forces by Flight Global. Currently, Indonesia has several active fighter aircraft and some in the ordering stage. The most dominant project is the collaborative production of the KF-21 Boromae fighter jet with South Korea, with an order of 50 units.

On August 21, 2023, the Indonesian government officially purchased 24 units of the F-15EX Eagle II fighter aircraft. This latest-generation aircraft is manufactured by The Boeing Company, headquartered in the United States. The purchase was confirmed through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) witnessed by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

DataIndonesia.id states that these aircraft will be a valuable addition to the fleet of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU). With the addition of the F-15EX Eagle II, Indonesia now has a total of 218 fighter aircraft, including active, ordered, and under development.

According to data from Flight Global, the collaborative KF-21 Boromae fighter jet project with South Korea is the largest, with an order of 50 units. Additionally, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense has also ordered 42 Rafale fighter jets from France.

There are also orders for 36 F-15ID fighter aircraft from the United States and 12 Mirage 2000-5 units from Qatar. Indonesia also possesses 25 F-16A/C fighter jets as part of the national defense system. Additionally, there are 22 Hawk 209 fighter aircraft.

Indonesia also has 16 Su-27/30/35 fighter aircraft manufactured in Russia. Apart from fighter aircraft, Indonesia also has other military equipment, including 15 EMB-314 aircraft for special missions until 2022. Furthermore, Indonesia has one tanker aircraft and 62 transport aircraft. Indonesia also has 39 combat helicopters. Additionally, there are 101 training aircraft in the Indonesian military inventory.

This strengthening reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining adequate military strength and modernizing its military equipment to face various challenges in the future.
