YOGYAKARTA, PROGRES.ID – American artist Brian Donnelly presents his largest work titled “KAWS: Holiday” in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, from August 19th to 31st, 2023. This monumental artwork stands at a height of 15 meters and a length of 45 meters, available for visitors to enjoy from 08:00 to 17:00.
“I am truly amazed that this exhibition is taking place in front of Prambanan Temple. Yogyakarta is an extraordinary place,” stated Brian Donnelly during the press conference of “KAWS: Holiday” in Yogyakarta on Friday, September 18th, 2023. This marks his 10th journey since the global “KAWS: Holiday” tour was first organized in 2018.
Brian Donnelly, known by the name KAWS, has visited various locations such as Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bristol, Singapore, Mount Chiangbai, Melbourne, and even outer space with his artwork. His first visit to Indonesia was made possible through the collaboration of AllRightsReserved with support from AKG Entertainment.
Additionally, Brian Donnelly reintroduces his artwork titled “Accomplice,” which initially appeared as a vinyl figure in 2002. “I feel honored that ‘KAWS: Holiday’ can be enjoyed by the public and become part of Indonesia’s dynamic cultural landscape,” he said.
Of course, the presence of “KAWS: Holiday” near Prambanan Temple holds profound significance. Prambanan Temple has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. This exhibition provides an opportunity for visitors to appreciate the blend of ancient architecture and contemporary art.
Brian Donnelly expressed, “Art has the power to unite people and inspire meaningful connections. I feel fortunate to contribute through my work.” Prambanan Temple, believed to have been built in the 9th century, is the largest Hindu temple complex in Indonesia.
Quoting Kompas.id, Axton Salim, a member of the Board of Directors of AKG Entertainment, is pleased that Brian Donnelly chose Indonesia as his latest destination. He hopes that this artist’s creation will bring Indonesia’s beauty to the international stage and encourage the younger generation to appreciate historical sites.
SK Lam, the founder of AllRightsReserved, stated that “KAWS: Holiday” is an entertaining and captivating artistic endeavor. Besides his prolific artistic output, KAWS is known for frequently interacting with visitors at various museums and galleries where his exhibitions are held.
KAWS, who has tasted some Indonesian dishes and greatly enjoyed them, has also created murals, paintings, and graphic designs. Meanwhile, “Accomplice” will be exclusively available starting from August 18th, 2023. This collection, featuring black and pink hues, will be released in a special edition.(**)
